Grief Steps

One of the important concepts our women learn in the Grief Recovery Program is that our losses can build up over time. A loss that we did not grieve in childhood can still affect us today.

Ask yourself, “What was the first loss you can remember?”

Many of us might answer, “Losing a pet” or “Moving and leaving all my friends behind.”

Did you fully grieve that first loss? Maybe you didn’t even realize how important it was at the time.

Maybe you were told, “It’s okay. Be strong. Don’t cry.” Perhaps you were never allowed to properly grieve.

Incomplete grief will affect future choices.

Grief Recovery HandbookIn our Grief Recovery Program, the women make a relationship timeline that takes them back to some of their earliest memories and losses. Then they learn how to emotionally complete what was unfinished.

This is a healing process that will help them move forward with hope and will also empower them for the next loss.

Because we all know that life is filled with a variety of losses. But life can also be filled with abundance and a proactive way to deal with unpleasant circumstances.

If you have some unfinished grief, consider joining our Grief Recovery Group at GateWay. As one woman responded, “Now I know how to deal with present and future grief in a productive – not destructive – way.”
