Part 2 of the Meet our Therapists Series by Danielle Melton, MA, LCPC

Danielle Melton, MA, LCPC is our newest therapist at Gateway of Hope Ministries. Danielle has a background of focused work with women, including supporting women finding pathways for freedom from human trafficking and counseling women looking for recovery from addition. Danielle is a trauma professional, trained and certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). She specializes in working with female adults who were abused as children.

What type of therapist are you? I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, this clinical license means that I underwent years of supervision and mentorship following graduation. I have a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling with a focus in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I have experience working with chemical addiction, domestic violence, and PTSD. I enjoy working with college-age women as they navigate transition, healthy boundaries, and relationships.

What brought you to Gateway of Hope? I have been a fan of the work Gateway of Hope is doing since I first learned about them in 2014, when I interviewed the founder for a school project I was doing during my Master’s program. I have been passionate about supporting women since I was a young person, and I love that there is place like Gateway of Hope where women are helping women. This mission aligns with my personal mission!

Why did you become a counselor? Growing up I was fortunate that people in my life talked openly about mental health and the benefits of counseling. I became a counselor out of a drive to help others find hope, freedom, and expansion. I believe in healing from trauma and negative life experiences, and I have both experienced and witness this change occur in the safety of a trusted therapeutic relationship. I find it an honor to sit with and hold space for women.
